What to expect

A pleasant, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future visits. We want your child to enjoy getting to know our doctor and staff, so we work hard to establish this bond during every appointment to our office. During your initial appointment, we will explain everything in detail and answer any questions you may have.

The process of evaluation usually takes 2-3 visits. Prior to the visit the Intake Questionnaire on the patient portal needs to be completed. Questionnaires and feedback from parents, teachers and other therapists and previous evaluations will be requested and reviewed.

1. The initial visit includes : a parent interview, which includes a comprehensive history including a developmental, educational, social, medical, nutritional, family and environmental history. A child centered assessment includes play based observation and parent -child interaction. A thorough neurologic exam and and some initial neuro-diagnostic testing to assess the multiple domains of development and function may be administered depending on time and complexity. This visit can range from 60-90 minutes

2. Second Visit includes : completion of the initial or additional neuro-developmental testing as required necessary and may vary on the age of the child. This visit can also range from 60-90 minutes. If for any reason additional time and testing is needed to get an accurate picture of your child, another visit will be set up.

3. Parent information session: will be scheduled after questionnaires and feedback from parents, teachers and other therapists requested are received. Diagnostic assessment and recommendations will be discussed and therapeutic interventions and treatment options offered.

4. Printed copies of the complete evaluations, including diagnostic summary and specific recommendation will be provided to parents that can be used to communicate with other proffessionals and cn be beneficial when advocating for the childs needs. All pertinant parts of the evaluation visits and any additional blood / nutritional testing results will be available for the parents on the patient portal as a personal patient record.

A school visit for observation of your child in class with additional communication with the school staff is an option that has to be requested and arranged between visits ahead of time as maybe warrented and possible in some cases. Videos of child in natural environments, play and therapy sessions may also be requested.

We look forward to meeting you and your child and providing the quality, comprehensive medical care you expect and deserve.
